Summary

When his dad is caught embezzling funds from half the town, Rob goes from popular lacrosse player to social pariah。 Even worse, his father’s failed suicide attempt leaves Rob and his mother responsible for his care。

Everyone thinks of Maegan as a typical overachiever, but she has a secret of her own after the pressure got to her last year。 And when her sister comes home from college pregnant, keeping it from her parents might be more than she can handle。

When Rob and Maegan are paired together for a calculus project, they’re both reluctant to let anyone through the walls they’ve built。 But when Maegan learns of Rob’s plan to fix the damage caused by his father, it could ruin more than their fragile new friendship。。。

This captivating, heartfelt novel asks the question: Is it okay to do something wrong for the right reasons?

He doesn’t all try to be like “leave me alone”。 he knows he’s lonely and he hates it•good people do bad things。 Rob’s dad did a bad thing but like Rob says HE WAS A GOOD MAN & PARENT and like most characters in the book have MESSED UP at least once but they are good people and we all make really dumb mistakes。•Also this book at some point probably makes you think about judging people。 If I lived in a town/went to school with Rob would I have judged and disliked him like everyone without knowing the full story? I’d like to think not but hmmNow on to the characters。 Rob I love you so much and I wanna give you a hug。 Rob is closed off and he’s got this anger and he’s sometimes a bit dumb but really HE JUST WANTS TO BE CARED FOR。 He misses his old life and friends。 He hates himself for loving his dad despite what he did。 He is lonely。 He wants to fix everything。 To sum it up, He’s just broken and doesn’t deserve it。ALSO HE LOVES BOOKS SO INSTANT YES !!While her story was much less significant I love how real and relatable Maegan was。 She doesn’t speak up all the time even when she wants to。 She judges but WE ALL DO。 She just doesn’t want to disappoint anyone。 She cheated on her SATs, terrible mistake EVEN THOUGH SHE’S SMART AND HER MARKS ARE GOOD because she just wanted to be as good as her sister at something and this !!!! We don’t all obviously go and cheat on our SATs but the pressure and expectations get to you no matter how good you are at something, it isn’t that easy。Side characters were so nice too。 I like Samantha (Maegan’s sister)。 She’s so down to earth so like probably really fun friend。 she’s got this perfect person facade on but guess what? SHE MESSED UP BIG TIME BUT YK SHE’S HUMAN。 Points for the sibling relationship too because they argue a lot but would absolutely do anything for each other。 I love Owen, I mean it’s not everyday that you make effort to be friends with the son of the man who stole money from your family。 He annoyed me a tiny bit later on but he’s awesome。 The library teacher deserves a mention (I forgot his name) because he’s probably one of the nicest people ever。and we’ve got connor who was a jerk for a long while but FINALLY A TWO POPULAR GUYS FRIENDSHIP THAT ISN’T ALL FOR THE LOOK AND THEY ACTUALLY CARE FOR EACH OTHER。 I am glad they kindaaa made up。I should probably mention the romance didn’t feel like a focus point to me。 I still really like them I just think I got caught up in everything else to focus on their relationship。 I feel like there weren’t many interactions but maybe that’s just me。 This wasn’t in any way a negative/downside to me though, I didn’t mind。Overall, it was just ugh beautiful and i totally didn’t tear up at some point (I did) 。。。more

this book was SO good。 Heart-breaking and difficult to read at times, but beautifully written and so worth it。 Rob and Meagan were both compelling characters who had a lot to deal with and I appreciated how this book focused on them dealing with their issues and forming an unlikely friendship before the romantic subplot was developed。 Although they were both a bit annoying at times, I would say that this made their characters more realistic considering they were juniors in high school going thro this book was SO good。 Heart-breaking and difficult to read at times, but beautifully written and so worth it。 Rob and Meagan were both compelling characters who had a lot to deal with and I appreciated how this book focused on them dealing with their issues and forming an unlikely friendship before the romantic subplot was developed。 Although they were both a bit annoying at times, I would say that this made their characters more realistic considering they were juniors in high school going through such hardship。 There were times, however, where I felt like their storylines were unbalanced。 Rob’s story, in my opinion, was far more compelling than Meagans and I was more interested in seeing how that would develop。 Meagans storyline just fell flat sometimes in comparison。 I thought the discussions surrounding ethical issues such as lying, stealing, etc。 were really well done and I liked how moral issues weren’t presented as black and white。 I also thought the discussion about privilege was incredibly important even amongst the hardships these characters were going through。 I also loved how Kemmerer used the really common “popular boy, nerd girl” trope and made it her own: Rob was once popular but he is now a social outcast。 Meagan is still a hardworking student, but nobody can look past a fatal mistake she made。 I also really enjoyed so many of the side characters in this book。 Owen, Mr。 London, and Samantha were all characters I LOVED so so much and truly made the story so special。 I really loved this book。 It was a difficult read at times but so important。 。。。more

14。06。2021My full Review。I went into this one expecting a YA romance, but what I read was far more angsty than I expected。 I wouldn’t call this as a romance novel, but a YA fiction because it focused more on Rob and Maegan’s family and peer issues。 Maegan’s relationship with her sister reminded me of Hani and Nikhita from Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating。 I liked how she stood up for Samantha when was almost on the verge of breaking down in public。 She took her out when she needed to escape 14。06。2021My full Review。I went into this one expecting a YA romance, but what I read was far more angsty than I expected。 I wouldn’t call this as a romance novel, but a YA fiction because it focused more on Rob and Maegan’s family and peer issues。 Maegan’s relationship with her sister reminded me of Hani and Nikhita from Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating。 I liked how she stood up for Samantha when was almost on the verge of breaking down in public。 She took her out when she needed to escape their parents questions and sat with her when she need someone besides her。 Rob and Maegan were so similar in many ways。 Their late night homework sessions were filled with coffee and family talks。 The amount of regret these two carried was almost palpable。 In a nutshell, Call It What You Want is a story of two teens trying to learn from their mistakes and finding love and hope in a world filled with guilt and regrets。10。06。2021: Sometimes I wish the story never ended。 I never expected this book be so emotional but it felt good to read about Rob and Maegan's story。BLOG • INSTAGRAM • TWITTER • PINTEREST 。。。more

if owen were a real person i would encourage him to keep pulling a robin hood and steal from the rich to give to the poor。 like he said, are they actually going to notice what they’re missing?all jokes aside, the author presented many issues in this book without actually going in depth and the solutions to those issues felt very rushed。 i felt like i couldn’t keep track of each issue and everything was kind of jumbled because of how fast the point of views would switch。

This doesn’t feel like the ordinary YA fare - deeper, more complicated, and it feels more serious somehow。 The main characters react and respond as teenagers do, and I like how relationships develop in this book。 The ending feels like a neat bow tying everything up, but it also leaves things open for interpretation, for the future to unfold。

An excellent novel exploring the line between right and wrong。 “Call it what you want“ by Brigid Kemmerer centers around two main characters - Rob and Maegan。 Rob has become a social outcast since his dad has been arrested for defrauding half the town, followed by his dad‘s attempted suicide。 Maegan, on the other hand, is known at school as the girl who cheated at the SATs last year, disqualifying a hundred students along with her。 Both of them have difficult family and school lives。 When they h An excellent novel exploring the line between right and wrong。 “Call it what you want“ by Brigid Kemmerer centers around two main characters - Rob and Maegan。 Rob has become a social outcast since his dad has been arrested for defrauding half the town, followed by his dad‘s attempted suicide。 Maegan, on the other hand, is known at school as the girl who cheated at the SATs last year, disqualifying a hundred students along with her。 Both of them have difficult family and school lives。 When they have to work together for a calculus project, they get to know each other and start to open up。 That is the premise, presented in the blurb。 But this novel is so much more。 It deals with poverty, vigilantism, broken friendships and critiques the police, the rich and the prejudice people hold onto despite not having all the facts。 The only fault I can find with this book is that the ending felt a bit rushed。 You will not be able to wait to turn the next page。 The author is masterful in her usage of tension and nuance。 For people who need a win, this will be a good choice。 。。。more

This book was amazing! The philosophical themes and the main characters' messy lives and relationships make this novel a perfect blend of tragedy, growth, and hope。I'll start with the characters。 I loved Rob and Maegan SO much。 They're both easy to like and empathize with, and I felt like none of their flaws were left unaddressed in some way。 Rob is a totally misunderstood sweetie and he deserves everything。 His generosity and naivety were an amazing antithesis to everyone else's judgments of hi This book was amazing!
